The unemployment in April 2011 was 8,1% or in average 13.262 or 495 fewer unemployed than in March 2011 with 8,6% unemployment.
Unemployment by gender:
Unemployment by men was 8,6% in April 2011 or down from 9,2% in March 2011 and down from 9,8% in April 2010.
Unemployment by age:
There were 2.523 young (16-24 years) unemployed in April 2011 or down from 2.741 in March 2011 and down from 3.024 in April 2010.
Unemployment by length:
There were 8.348 without a job over 6 monhts in April 2011 or up from 8.189 in March 2011. Those unemployed over 1 year were 4.801 in April 2011 or down from 4.837 in March 2011.
Open vacancies:
There were 348 open vacancies in April 2011 or up from 217 in March 2011.
Granted work permits:
There were 17 new work permits issued in April 2011 or down from 25 in March 2011.
The unemployment forecast for May 2011:
It is expected that the unemployement in May 2011 will reduce and be between 7,4% - 7,8%.

Payment slips in electronic form
Unemployment payment slips are not sent out in paper through regular mail anymore (from October 2009). They're only displayed electronicly on your personal account at the Directorates of Labour (Vinnumálastofnun) application website and at the Social Insurance (Tryggingastofnun) website www.tryggur.is/
