The labour market in May 2011
The unemployment (not sesaonally adjusted) in May 2011 was 7,4% or in average 12.553 or709 fewer than in April 2011 with 8,1% unemployment.
Unemployment by gender:
Unemployment by men 7,7% in May 2011 or down from 8,6% in April 2011 and down from 8,8% in May 2010. Unemployment by women was 7,1% in May or down from 7,4% in April 2011.
Unemployment by age:
There were 2.305 young (16-24 years) unemployed in May 2011 or down from 2.523 in April 2011 and down from 2.735 in May 2010.
Unemployment by length:
There were 7.993 without a job over 6 months in May 2011 or down from 8.348 in April 2011. Unemployed over 1 year were 4.725 in May 2011 or down from 4.801 in April 2011.
Open vacancies:
There were 303 open vacancies in May 2011 or down from 348 in April 2011.
Granted work permits:
There were 31 new work permits issued in May 2011 or up from 17 in April 2011.
The unemployment forecast for June 2011:
It is expected that the unemployment in June 2011 will reduce in part due to seasonal fluctuations and be between 6,7% - 7,1%.

Payment slips in electronic form
Unemployment payment slips are not sent out in paper through regular mail anymore (from October 2009). They're only displayed electronicly on your personal account at the Directorates of Labour (Vinnumálastofnun) application website and at the Social Insurance (Tryggingastofnun) website www.tryggur.is/
